Digitalization continues to advance. Sales of software solutions in Germany are estimated at 32.4 billion euros* – 2.6 billion more than in the previous year. There is a threat of over-digitalization. A situation that is avoidable.
In this year’s spring release, we introduced the new add-on feature User Behavior Mining. Today, we shed some light on this analysis feature and put it in the spotlight a bit more.
Digitalization: All well and good on the outside, bad on the inside
Introducing new software to give users helpful ways to perform their work more efficiently is a worthy goal and a laudable thought. Unfortunately, it is still in most cases a fact that people in front of the screens rely on workarounds that work for them, before new things are trained. People are simply creatures of habit. So does digitalization arrive at the company at all?
Software and digitalization managers ask themselves (or should ask themselves) whether the tools they introduce are being used to the extent they were intended. If this is not the case, resources are wasted in abundance and the result is devastating.
Digitalization only works with the human factor – the user. Only when acceptance is established in front of the screen can the changeover become a success.
Digital adoption reimagined
To enable users to make more intensive and targeted use of software immediately, digital adoption is a significant step in the right direction. Still, questions may remain. Is software being used? To what extent; fully and as intended? Are there regularities in usage? Are there obstacles in the condition?
Since one of the questions can also be, do I need Digital Adoption for my applications, we looked at Digital Adoption philosophically and questioned this solution apart from the many benefits. So we took a mental step back to be able to take another step forward. The result: User Behavior Mining.
> What does User Behavior Mining do?
User Behavior Mining analyzes the usage of applications based on aggregated mass data and derives conclusions.
In other words: User Behavior Mining is a powerful tool for a well-founded examination of the software system landscape and thus for supporting decision makers.
> How does User Behavior Mining work?
With AppNavi User Behavior Mining, the initiator simply specifies the application and then it’s ready to go. The system observes the use of a software for exactly 30 days by all users who apply it, in compliance with data protection regulations. After the 30 days, if the AppNavi solution is integrated into the application, suitable routes for the application are automatically suggested based on the usage of the software. Thus, User Behavior Mining accelerates digital adoption deployment and takes the work out of creating processes and routes by integrating them holistically, while providing the best possible routes through the application – after all, the users have done it before.
From the Helping Hand to the User Efficiency Suite
At AppNavi, we take a holistic view of learning, teaching and the modern way of working. From analysis to optimization to maximize user efficiency, eliminate barriers and reduce over- digitalization.
Thus, through User Behavior Mining, the AppNavi digital adoption platform grows from a supporting tool to a comprehensive User Efficency Suite and is of interest to everyone: from decision makers to route authors. Therefore, in addition to features, three things were immensely important to us when developing User Behavior Mining:
| Simplicity
To start a user behavior mining analysis, you need to provide a single piece of information: For which application. It could not be simpler. Thus, this additional feature also follows our approach of keeping things as simple as possible and not requiring expert knowledge to make it accessible to all.
| Performance
Digital Adoption is designed to help – to be a support. The same goes for usage analytics. Ergo, recording software usage through User Behavior Mining does not affect its operation in the slightest.
| Privacy
All data during a User Behavior Mining analysis is collected anonymously, according to our data frugalism concept, transmitted exclusively encrypted and stored with state-of-the-art security standards. Data protection is our highest doctrine.

KEEP CALM and use APPNAVI
Digitalization will continue to advance, that is inevitable. The figures from Statista at the beginning of the article support this thesis. Over-digitalization, i.e. the expensive use of software that in the end nobody uses, can be prevented or turned to the positive if you know who uses the software and how – and we would like to help you find out with our helpful tools.
